Introduction
Created by
Johnathan Grover, each Mario picture took over one whole year to complete.
The inspiration for this series of images
came from a friend who gave him the idea after seeing his previous owl
paintings. He was extremely fascinated by Nintendo games as he grew up playing
them.
He says "Mario himself is probably
my favorite character due to his mischievous behavior and charm. The many
pranks he played on the enemies in game always caught my attention."
"I love to paint animals, so it was
pretty easy for me to transform Nintendo characters into animals which is what
I did with these images."
Who made mario bros
The game was
designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, both of which are now famous
game designers.
Takashi's father was quite a sculptor so
he is used to drawing people with interesting bodies, this is why most of the
characters have different body parts.
Shigeru Miyamoto thought up all the ideas for the individual characters
and stages, as well as the gameplay. As a result, he is often referred to as
the father of modern video games.
Mario bros
The Mario series
has sold over 330.21 million units worldwide, which is equal to roughly $59,870
billion in revenue. This makes it the best selling video game series in
history, by a landslide margin of almost 100 million copies.
He was inspired by
classic arcade games like Donkey Kong, which is where Mario originally came
from
Mario was named
after the landlord of Nintendo of America's office, Mario Segale. The original
full name that Nintendo gave to him in Japan was "Mr. Video", but
then they shortened it and tried out other names before settling on Mario.
The first game he appeared in back in
1981 was Donkey Kong, which was designed by Miyamoto and released by Nintendo.
Mario created the idea of a plumber jumping on turtles and mushrooms to save
his girlfriend from a giant gorilla monster thing. This simple yet effective
formula has been used ever since, and is still going strong today with New
Super Mario Bros U for the Wii U.
Marios Adventure (1990) (Mario goes to
rescue Peach from Bowser, is transformed into a raccoon and then is given
flying abilities when he eats a magical leaf.)
He has made many games since then, such as marios adventure 2 etc.
The characters and
setting were based on his childhood in Japan
Miyamoto has said
that when he was a child, there were a lot of forests near his home. He says
"This is why you have a very healthy forest with native animals in Super
Mario Bros," and it's also why all the characters seem so happy and fun
loving.
The games main protagonist, he is a short
Italian plumber who's profession is to rescue Princess Peach Toadstool from the
evil King Koopa Bowser. He is easily recognised by his trademark red cap, blue
overalls and white gloves. His full name in Japan was originally "Mr Video
Game" but it was shortly changed to "Jumpman".
Mario appears in almost all of the games
in the series, with a total of over 200 titles. He has also appeared in many
different types of media outside of video games such as a comic book series, a
feature film and even is own early morning show on NBC.
Conclusion
As of 2013, Mario
has received universal acclaim from critics. He is regarded as one of the most
famous characters in gaming history, where many games often make top ten lists
which include him. As he has appeared on more game covers than any other
character, and was voted best video game character ever by GameFAQs.
Mario has been portrayed by Charles
Martinet since 1995, who gives him a distinct voice and personality which makes
him seem like more than just a plumber who jumps on turtles.
